Review: The Hookup

Let me start by saying, I've read a decent amount of Kristen Ashely books, she is by far one of my favorite reads. While I don't love each one, I have liked them all. I've read at least 1 in each of her series of books.

This book, this book though is EVERYTHING! It was different than the typical KA books you come to expect (read just a few and you'll know what I mean), but that just made this one SO MUCH BETTER! I mean I LOVED this book. It was shorter than most of her others, or at least it felt that way without all the added drama you usually have, but I was fine with that. This one really focused on the main characters, Izzie and Johnny, getting to know them and watching them fall in love. There wasn't any major mystery's or murders to solve, it was just a love story, with the typical heat and amazing sex scenes. There was no lacking in the feel department.

The Hookup was a great change of place for KA, but I really hope it continues with the following books in this series.

Review: Drive

Oh this book, not what I was expecting. This is not a book to start late in the evening as you will find yourself still awake at 2am, debating sleep or finishing the last 30% of the book. I reluctantly decided on sleep, as my toddler wouldn't understand Mommy being up late and needing to sleep in. The trouble with reading on my kindle as I do more often now, even though I prefer the physical copy, it's harder to skip to the end. This is a book that I wasn't far into that I HAD to know the ending. So even after going to bed, I was looking up other book reviews to see if anyone spoiled who Stella chose, unfortunately I didn't find one, and it drove my nuts not knowing.

I loved Stella, was she perfect and made great decisions, no, but she was a breath of fresh air. She had me laughing, and in multiple places, crying as well. Love triangles can be hard to read at times, as you certainly feel for Stella and her choice between the very troubled Reid or the simple yet hot Nate. The story starts with Stella just accomplishing a major step in her career and getting a phone call from best friend Lexi, informing her she just ended up on a blind date to the wedding of Stella's ex. This brings up all kinds of heartache and feelings for Stella and instead of flying home, she ends up in a rental driving 20 + hours home and reliving the past few years, in how she met Reid, Nate and fell in love with both. You spend the entire time trying to figure out who got married and which man she's driving home to.

The other characters in the book really helped round out the story. I spent so much time angry with Stella's sister Paige as she was. I felt for Lexi and really REALLY hope we get a book about Lexi & Ben, I need their story. Plus I want to see more of grown up Stella the one she chose, as the epilogue didn't give much of their current and future lives.

Overall, I loved this book. This was my first by Kate Stewart, but there will be more now.
